It's a HOT one out there today. I think this is the hottest day on record so far this summer down here at Ticket King St. Paul. Which makes us very happy to have air conditioning this summer! So far, this week has been pretty non-eventful down here on West Seventh Street. There really aren't a lot of events this week (save for a couple of really fantastic games on the Saint Paul Saints schedule!). Although I do have to say that we are a little excited to hear about the impending changes to the Minnesota Wild roster with the NHL draft this weekend and the quickly approaching UFA date - we'll keep you updated!OH - and be sure to check out TicketBeth's blog - The Life of a Ticket King Intern!

The Big Freeze
Remember back in June when all of the staffers down at Ticket King St. Paul were complaining about how HOT it was in the Ticket King St. Paul office? And we were sooo excited when the A/C was installed? Well. We have the exact opposite problem during the cold, winter months. The St. Paul office is really unique and super cool, everyone comments on the architecture and "real St. Paul flair" that you see when you walk into our little spot. Part of that flair comes from the fact that this is an original St. Paul building - meaning the heating situation is still kind of stuck in the dark ages. Well, just back to the days of radiator heat. Hah.
So, being an energy conservative company, we turned the heat off in the St. Paul office on Friday, because no one would be working here over the weekend. And boy oh boy, was that a bad idea. Monday morning rolls around with a predicted high of 32 degrees. A little icy, eh? And it took four hours just for the temperature to hit 63 degrees inside the office! Wow, we definitely won't be making that mistake again!

The History of Air Conditioning
Since we are SO excited to finally have air conditioning in our Ticket King St. Paul location, I thought I'd share the origins of the a/c unit! The idea of cooling a space has long been in existence. Ancient Romans used aqueducts to push water through building walls to cool them. Ventilators were invented in Egypt and used during the Middle Ages. In 1842, a Florida doctor figured out how to use ice and a fan to cool the rooms of his patients. The first real air conditioning unit was developed in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier to control temperature and humidity in a printing plant - and since it worked so well, teh Carrier Air Conditioning Company was formed to improve the comfort level in homes, businesses and cars. In the 1950's, the A/C trend really took hold and has just increased through today, where A/C is more of a necessity than a commodity. So there you have it, the origins of A/C.
